Endoscopy of the Peroneal Compartment for Complete Endoscopic Adhesiolysis of Fibrous Adhesions of the Peroneal Compartment of the Leg
Fibrous adhesions among the structures of the peroneal compartment can occur after trauma. Adhesions can occur between the 2 peroneal tendons; between the 2 peroneal muscles; between the peroneus brevis muscle and peroneus longus tendon; or between the peroneal muscle/tendon and surrounding deep fascia or adjacent fibular bone. Whenever possible, endoscopic adhesiolysis is preferable to open surgery because less extensive dissection and small surgical incisions allow immediate vigorous mobilization of the foot and ankle. The purpose of this technical note is to describe the details of endoscopy of the peroneal compartment for complete endoscopic adhesiolysis of fibrous adhesions of the peroneal compartment.
