Know what to expect from implementation of ED's, DOJ's Title IX Special Investigations Team

College officials and administrators need to take notice of the Trump Administration's recent changes in how the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights investigates and enforces Title IX complaints. On April 4, 2025, believing that there is a “staggering amount” of Title IX cases currently pending, the ED and the U.S. Department of Justice announced the creation of a joint Title IX Special Investigations Team. Although providing few details (as of press time) on how such will be accomplished, the two federal agencies assert that the Title IX SIT will streamline the Title IX investigatory process to “ensure consistent resolutions to protect students, and especially female athletes” from what they refer to as “the effects of gender ideology in school programs and activities,” per an April 4 press release from the ED.
