Photophysical Characteristics of Solutions of Divalent Europium Dihalides EuX2 (X = Cl, Br). Aluminum Alkyls as Enhancers of Luminescence of the Eu2+ Ion
The photophysical properties of solutions of EuCl2 and EuBr2 dihalides in tetrahydrofuran have been studied in detail for the first time. The absorption, photoluminescence (4f65d1 → 4f7 transition), and photoluminescence excitation spectra as well as photoluminescence yields and lifetimes of excited Eu2+* ions were measured. The effect of increasing the luminescence intensity of the Eu2+ ion in the presence of aluminum alkyls was detected due to the rigid structure of a four-center complex formed by the interaction of EuCl2 and EuBr2 with aluminum alkyls.
