Mobility of Alkyl Ligands Grafted on Separon SGX Silica Gel When Interacting with Deuterated Solvents
Various solvents’ interaction with silica gel alkyl modifiers of different chain lengths is studied by the proton magnetic relaxation method. To isolate the free induction decay (FID) of the modifier chain’s proton signal, fully deuterated solvents are used: ethanol, chloroform, acetone, and the nonprotic solvent tetrachloroethane. Decomposition of the spin echo decay shows its three-component character, and the component with the shortest relaxation time characterizes the mobility of the modifier chain. The relaxation times of the short component decrease with the decreasing modifier chain length. This change is observed for all the studied solvents. The study of the interaction of various solvents with alkyl modifiers shows that the mobility of the modifier tends to decrease with the increasing dipole moment of the solvent.
