Front cover image: Single-crystal high-nickel (SC-HN) cathodes are promising for next-generation lithium-ion batteries, but suffer from air instability that leads to unique storage degradation pathways compared to their polycrystalline counterparts. This study presents a comprehensive, six-month multi-dimensional analysis tracking the evolution of structural and chemical changes. The results uncover a non-linear degradation of surface structure and composition, with surface reconstruction identified as the primary driver of performance loss. These insights advance the fundamental understanding of SC-HN air instability and offer a foundation for developing targeted strategies to improve storage stability.
