A 54-year-old patient presented with refractory pain, impaired quality of life and psychological impairment following a colon ascendens carcinoma with hemicolectomy and chronic respiratory disease. Multimodal pain treatment did not alleviate the symptoms. A genetically determined accelerated metabolism in the liver with a lack of effect of painkillers was diagnosed (duplication of the gene coding CYP2D6). Osteopathic treatments were able to achieve a significant improvement in pain, psychological stress and quality of life.
