Further, New Guinea Singing Dogs are the only canid group that significantly shared genetic variation with dingoes, which fits with our understanding of previous phylogenetic analyses. Despite more recent sympatric distributions with dogs, dingoes have likely maintained their independence since their arrival in Australia, even in areas with high lethal control, indicating that their evolutionary trajectory is currently being conserved.
