Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an uncommon genetic neuromuscular condition manifesting as progressive and irreversible muscular weakness. It is usually diagnosed in childhood, and, unfortunately, individuals living with DMD have a shortened lifespan. DMD has an effect on multiple body systems, leading to complications such as cardiomyopathy, respiratory infections, fragility fractures, and mood disorders.
