This article also reviews several emerging real-time techniques for detecting and quantifying HER status in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) extracted from blood samples, as well as <em>in vivo</em> assessments using positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging.
