Genetic and epigenetic alterations have been involved in dysregulated type I IFN responses in systemic autoimmune disorders. Aberrant type I IFN production and secretion have been associated with distinct clinical phenotypes, disease activity, and severity as well as differentiated treatment responses among SARDs.
