Comparison of grip strength between professional spin and pace bowlers
Handgrip strength is an important factor for optimizing bowling performance and potentially preventing injury. The difference in the bowling actions of pace and spin bowlers could possibly contribute to a difference in their hand grip strength. The hand grip strength of the dominant and non-dominant hand of sixty six professional bowlers (thirty three pace bowlers and thirty three spin bowlers) was assessed using the hand dynamometer. The grip strength of the dominant hand of pace bowlers and spin bowlers was 40.67±9.02 kg and 39.39±7.64 kg respectively. The grip strength of the non-dominant hand of pace bowlers and spin bowlers was 36.97±8.05 kg and 36.67±7.84 kg respectively. The statistical analysis was done using the paired t test to compare the grip strength between the professional pace and spin bowlers. There is no significant difference between the grip strength of professional pace and spin bowlers in cricket.
