Traditionally, the standard treatment for osteomyelitis has involved surgical excision, intravenous antibiotics and/or amputation. However, the need for recurrent surgical intervention remains frequent. While osseous resection can be achieved, complications include soft tissue infections and delayed wound healing which lengthens the postoperative recovery.
