NAFLD PATHOGENESIS AND CLINICAL ASSOCIATIONS WITH CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an expanding issue in prevention and treatment. The central pathological processes of NAFLD comprise pathological lipid accumulation resulting in insulin resistance, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and endoplasmic reticulum stress. NAFLD is firmly associated with a raised risk of major cardiovascular events. This literature review seeks to overview the pathophysiological mechanisms of NAFLD and provide proof of a connection between NAFLD and an augmented risk of cardiovascular complications.
