'Teachers as historical agents' : An interview with Maria Nikolakaki

In this interview with Maria Nikolakaki, Professor of Pedagogy and Education at the University of Peloponnese, we explore her career influences, the evolution of critical pedagogy, and global trends in teaching and schools. A prominent figure in critical pedagogy, Nikolakaki combines elements from the writings of Paulo Freire and from Greek philosophy in her work. Her recent publication, The Anatomy of Neoliberalism and Education: imperialism, class struggle and pedagogy (2022), examines the impact of neoliberal policies on education, ranging from standardised tests to the erosion of holistic education.
