BEHAVIOR OF THE GEOMAGNETIC ELD DURING REVERSALS AND EXCURSIONS
On the basis of the three-dimensional geodynamo model, it is shown that at small amplitudes of heat sources during reversals and excursions of the geomagnetic eld, attenuation of not only the dipole magnetic eld, but also the eld of high harmonics is observed. In this scenario, the Earth’s magnetosphere may be signi cantly smaller than previously expected, and the amount of radiation penetrating the Earth may be correspondingly greater.
