Thermo-promoted annulation of arylboronic acids with anthranils under catalyst-free conditions: Access to acridines
Acridine derivatives have exhibited great application prospects in organic photovoltaic devices. An efficient and atomically economical synthetic method was developed for the production of acridines from anthranils using arylboronic acids. This protocol features no catalysts, good functional group tolerance, and operational simplicity. This catalyst-free process afforded various acridines in moderate to good yields, providing an efficient platform for the investigation of untapped reactions at high temperatures.

The Journal of Chemical Research is a monthly journal which has a broad international authorship and publishes research papers and reviews in all branches of experimental chemistry. Established in 1977 as a joint venture by the British, French and German chemical societies it maintains the high standards set by the founding societies. Each paper is independently peer reviewed and only carefully evaluated contributions are accepted. Recent papers have described new synthetic methods, new heterocyclic compounds, new natural products, and the inorganic chemistry of metal complexes.
