We detected a total of 124 unique taxa of fish and 38 unique taxa of scleractinian corals. Overall, our eDNA results confirmed that the Ogasawara Islands host a rich variety of coral and fish fauna and underline the strength of eDNA surveys in rapidly obtaining targeted multi-taxa data using seawater samples, requiring comparatively little effort and a lack of requirement for in situ taxonomic expertise.
