DNA Barcoding Confirms the First Record of Bleekeria nigrilinea (Ammodytidae) from the Bay of Bengal, Indian Coastal Water
Abstract
Present study reports black-edged fin sandlance, Bleekeria nigrilinea Psomadakis, Yoshinaga, Wah et Ida, 2021, for the first time from the Bay of Bengal, Indian waters, on the basis of three specimens. Specimens were collected from the Shankarpur fishing harbour and identified as Bleekeria nigrilinea through molecular analysis and were subjected to full morphological analysis. This species has previously been reported from the Andaman Sea (Myanmar and Thailand).

Journal of Ichthyology is an international peer-reviewed journal published in collaboration with the Russian Academy of Sciences. It covers original studies in fish taxonomy, evolution, molecular biology, morphology, species diversity, zoological geography, genetics, physiology, ecology, behavior, reproduction, embryology, invasions, and protection. Some problems of applied ichthyology are also covered. The journal welcomes manuscripts from all countries in the English or Russian language.
