Independent learning encourages students to grow according to their abilities, aligning with the thoughts of Ki Hajar Dewantara on the \"system among,\" where education is not oppressive and should be enjoyable, following the natural and temporal order. One applicable learning model to achieve independent learning is the role-playing method. The aim of this research is to examine the application of the role-playing method in realizing independent learning through a literature review. The criteria used include articles relevant to the research objectives published within the last 5 years, accessible through Google Scholar. The research results indicate that the role-playing method provides students with the freedom to explore themselves through the roles they undertake. Enjoyable learning experiences make students more active, confident, skilled in communication, creative, and critical thinkers.
