Exploring cultural heritage and archaeological research from a VR-based approach
In this paper, we approach an archaeological site in the Southern Andes using Virtual Reality (VR) environments to enhance cultural heritage and academic research. We will detail how we used a video game engine to model the light, landscape, sound dispersion, and architecture and create VR experiences. We will also discuss the results of pilot tests and interviews that we did to evaluate the success of such VR experiences. Even though we believe these experiences can positively impact the field of research and the protection of tangible and intangible heritage, we must carefully consider how to design VR environments and experiences.
