The paradigmatic figure of Erwin von Steinbach, the ingenious architect of Strasbourg Cathedral, sympathetically overshadows that of the medieval architect Eudes de Montreuil, whose re-evaluation is due to André Thevet from a patriotic and idealized Renaissance point of view.
