There is a vast potential for indigenous ornamental fishes in Assam. Awareness and documentation of these fishes is important for their conservation and systematic exploration which will ensure employment generation. In the present study, a total of 41 species belonging to 17 families and 7 orders were recorded in the Hahila Beel. The predominant orders were Cypriniformes, Siluriformes and Perciformes.
