Diversidad de coleópteros atraídos por carroña y estiércol en una región ganadera de Tlacuilotepec, Puebla, México

Considering the importance of knowing the diversity of coprophagous and necrophagous Coleoptera in the biogeographic province of the Sierra Madre Oriental we conducted the present research in the municipality of Tlacuilotepec, Puebla. We selected a pasture adjacent to a native forest area to compare species diversity. Six baited pit-fall traps were placed for each habitat for eight months (from July 2018 to March 2019). Two types of bait were used to attract beetles; squid in a state of decomposition to attract necrophagous insects and cow manure to attract coprophagous species. Although we recorded more individuals in the forest habitat, we did not detect differences in species richness or diversity. However, we found differences between them regarding species turnover. Ecological networks showed a nested pattern in forest and a not nested pattern in pastureland. This finding suggests that species in a forest habitat use the resources in many ways. It is necessary to study more localities to understand the distribution of copro-necrophagous Coleoptera for the whole region.
