ChatGPT has the potential to dismantle the dominance of English in research communication. Adapting Te Eni's model of communication complexity, I explore the implications of using ChatGPT for non-native English speakers in the development, inputs, process, and impact of research communication. I then relate these technological changes to broader reflections on the relationship between machines and humans and the implications for the future of academic research. Democratizing academic research with Artificial Intelligence: The misleading case of language

Critical Perspectives on Accounting aims to provide a forum for the growing number of accounting researchers and practitioners who realize that conventional theory and practice is ill-suited to the challenges of the modern environment, and that accounting practices and corporate behavior are inextricably connected with many allocative, distributive, social, and ecological problems of our era.
