Polymorphism of folate metabolism genes in students studying in the subarctic region of Russia
AIM: analysis of epidemiology of the spread of polymorphism of folate metabolism genes in various ethnic groups Russians and Indians living in the Arctic region of Russia. METHODS: epidemiological, prospective, cross-sectional population study was performed on a sample of ethnic Indians and Russians, natives of the Arkhangelsk region.RESULTS: A questionnaire survey of participants and a molecular genetic study of genes determining folate metabolism were conducted by real-time PCR. During the study, the participants were divided into two groups a group of Russian ethnos and a group of Indian ethnos. A comparative analysis of the frequencies of the spread of polymorphism of folate metabolism genes in the two studied groups was carried out. CONCLUSION: russian participants were more likely to carry the unfavorable allele T polymorphism rs1801133 of the MTHFR gene in comparison with the group of ethnic Indians, which indicates an increased risk of folate metabolism disorders in the group of Russian participants.
