Commercial bank employees' job burnout: hope or hype
The aim of this study is to find out the hopes in dealing with bank employees' job burnout. The study was based on a sample of 225 bank employees in Bangladesh. A self-administered structured questionnaire was used as the survey instrument. Descriptive statistics, zero order correlation and linear regression equation model were used and revealed that 45.3% employees have little sign, 38.7% are at risk, 10.2% have no sign, 5.3% in the way of burnout and only 0.4% severe risk of burnout. Empirical results also showed that work stressors positively and work centred support variables negatively correlate with employees' burnout. Work pressure and work overload have been found as burnout creating variables and good employer-employee relation reduces burnout. So, working towards preventing job burnout should not be the hype, rather, helping employees to have a hope of overcoming the job burnout needed to be emphasised by the management.
