A NEW BAR-BASED ELEMENT FOR BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF T-SECTIONS AND SIMILAR SECTIONS, AND APPLICATION TO SPATIAL STRUCTURES
The present study presents a new FEM element for buckling analysis of T-section members as well as H-section and its application to spatial structures. The element is fundamentally composed of parallel three beams together with two struts normal to the three elements, enabling a consideration of lateral-torsional buckling. The present study first investigates the capability to analyze buckling strength of T-sections, extended to H-sections with different sizes for top and bottom flanges, then, followed by buckling analysis to a shallow arch. Through the analyses, the effectiveness of the proposed element for buckling analysis of spatial structures is confirmed.

The Architectural Institute of Japan’s Journal of Structural and Construction Engineering aim to pursue theories for building and maintaining pieces of architecture as well as the cities or areas surrounding them, and to accumulate and systematize the knowledge needed to put those theories into practice. The Journal of Structural and Construction Engineering focuses on research results in the specific fields of “building materials and construction” and “structures.” Accordingly, it compiles articles in the following areas, disseminates relevant information, and hosts discussions: ・Concrete, steel, and inorganic materials ・Timber and organic materials ・Finishing materials ・Construction and quality management ・Applied mechanics ・Loads and reliability on structures ・Building foundations ・Timber structures ・Steel structures ・Reinforced concrete structures ・Shell and spatial structures ・Engineering seismology and structural dynamics ・Other composite structures
