The tegumen morphology is inappropriate as a diagnostic character for Trabala niphanae-inga-pinratanai sp. group (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae)
The tegumen morphology is a basic diagnostic feature for species of the genus Trabala Walker, 1856. However, the following data shows that Trabala niphanae-inga-pinratanai sp. group is an exception to this “rule”. In this article, we illustrate variability of this feature on the example of two samples of Trabala niphanae Owada & Kishida, 1989 from southern Laos. Additionally, we describe Trabala niphanae variabilis ssp. nov. based on morphological and molecular characters.
