During cold rolling operation, the film formation between asperities plays an important role in controlling friction and coil temperatures. A well formulated lubricant ensures smooth transition of lubrication throughout the range of roll bite temperature and also across the lubrication regimes. A sudden spike in coefficient of friction (CoF) can often lead to increased wear and abnormal increase in coil temperatures resulting in band formation.
