This special issue of Metropolitan Universities Journal was conceived to further the discussion about the role of colleges and universities in supporting community-engaged research. Their investment in partnering with communities to promote positive social and economic change is prominent in initiatives that range from community service and service-learning to innovating in spaces such as workforce and community development.
