Phenomenological Study on Occupational Therapists' Experiences and Use of Role Performance Measure in Home Rehabilitation Therapy for Individuals with Disabilities
This phenomenological study explores occupational therapists' experiences providing
home-based rehabilitation therapy to middle-aged and elderly individuals with disabilities,
and their use of role performance measure. The research aims to analyze therapists' experiences
and examine the application of role performance measure in home-based rehabilitation therapy.
Six therapists providing home-based rehabilitation therapy participated, sharing their experiences
and perspectives through interviews. Data were analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological
method, revealing three components: home-based rehabilitation therapy experiences,
benefits of role performance measure, and areas for improvement. Role performance measure
was found to aid in forming therapeutic relationships, setting goals, and employing a top-down
approach. Suggestions for improvement included manualizing the assessment process and
refining participant selection criteria. This study suggests that role performance measure
can be a valuable tool for occupational therapists, facilitating interventions and motivation
during home-based rehabilitation therapy for middle-aged and elderly individuals.
