Yet there is a significant difference between, for example, Richard Lippold’s Flight (1963), a custom-designed sculpture with a global flying theme created with architect Walter Gropius for the Vanderbilt Avenue lobby of what was once the Pan Am Building (ironically continuing to soar long after the grounding of its namesake airline and the building’s name change to MetLife), and the X-eyed behemoths created by the artist known as Kaws that recently invaded several Park Avenue lobbies.
