A Frequency Reconfigurable Mobile Handset Antenna for 4G and Pre-5G Technology
A frequency reconfigurable mobile handset antenna for future sub-6GHz band wireless services is proposed in this paper. The antenna is very simple in design with two dipole radiators designed on one side of a 120mm × 60mm circuit board. Frequency reconfigurable performance at 3GPP LTE band 40/41 and sub-6GHz band at 3.5GHz for 5G services (3GPP LTE band 42/43) is achieved in its two resonance modes. Good 3:1 VSWR bandwidth is obtained with 25% FBW and 11.89% FBW in the two resonance modes respectively. The antenna provides gain over 4dB in both the resonance modes of the antenna with more than 70% efficiency in the entire operation bandwidth. This antenna offers a simple yet effective design for future mobile handset antennas for sub-6GHz band services.
