Grapeseed Oil's Breakdown Voltage Test for Transformer Oil Feasibility
To realize the safety of electricity as stated in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 30 of 2009 Articles 1, 2 and 5 encourage researchers to provide breakthroughs and innovations in the oil used for transformers. Oil that can provide electrical safety is an appropriate oil according to the standards, namely from the electrical side which has a breakdown voltage value of 30 kV at an interval of 2.5 mm. The use of transformer oil in Indonesia still uses Shell Diala B, the oil comes from petroleum where petroleum is not renewable and petroleum waste is classified as a dangerous waste that cause pollution and damage the environment. Plant derived grapeseed oil is a breakthrough and innovation that can be used for transformer oil. The aim of this research is to test the feasibility of grapeseed oil as transformer oil. The finding provides good news, because the results obtained that the breakdown voltage value reaches 71 kV at a temperature of 50 oC - 60 oC, this temperature is the temperature when the transformer operates. With this value in terms of electrical requirements, grapeseed oil is suitable to be used as a substitute for transformer oil that has been used by PLN, namely Shell Diala B which is derived from petroleum.
