RIS interface for mammography results and patient reporting
Using an existing mainframe computer (an IBM 3090), a computerized process for mammography result notification and follow up was developed in a 380 physician multispecialty clinic. Prior to implementation each individual physician used a process unique to their practice to notify patients of mammography and breast ultrasound results and of the need for follow-up examinations. Effectiveness varied and all were cumbersome and time consuming. The system was centralized in the Radiology Department and has improved the efficiency and accuracy of notification and has enhanced the quality of care.
