Design of Model Predictive Controller for Active Magnetic Bearing System
The development of an efficient control scheme for an active magnetic bearing system (AMBS) is presented in this paper. The AMBS belongs to the class of a highly uncertain system with nonlinear dynamics. The concept of model predictive control (MPC) scheme has been applied to the AMBS for the development of the proposed control scheme considering the wide range of uncertainty. The MPC scheme provides a solution to explicit optimization instead of an analytical solution for control design. The simulation results have been obtained for the control of rotor position using the proposed control scheme. The existing controllers for AMBS have been considered for the performance comparative analysis with the proposed controller. It is observed that the performance of the AMBS operation is significantly enhanced with the proposed scheme in comparison to the existing schemes.
