The modulator discretely changes the phase of a constant envelope carrier according to the input digital data bits. A test chip was fabricated in a 0.13/spl mu/m logic CMOS process. Experiment results show that the modulator consumes 2 mA, has an operating frequency range between 1.5 GHz and 3.3 GHz with EVMs below 4%, and can support a data rate up to 225 Mbps with EVMs lower than 5.5%.
