TEFL tourism as a form of niche tourism.

Abstract This chapter seeks to identify a number of similarities between TEFL tourism (i.e., tourism that involves teaching English as a foreign language) and various other forms of tourism, placing it firmly in the 'micro-niche' category. The work-leisure binary in TEFL tourism is discussed, as well as TEFL tourism's ties with volunteer tourism. A typology of TEFL tourism is then presented, which includes cultural TEFL tourism, philanthropic TEFL tourism, pro-poor TEFL tourism, educational TEFL tourism, adventure TEFL tourism, and gap-year TEFL tourism.
