We presented the results of the work on environmental factors monitoring (ambient air, drinking water, soil,
environmental conditions at sports facilities), evaluation of potential health risks during the preparation and
hosting the mass events with international participation on the example of the XXI FIFA World Cup matches
in Volgograd. A number of activities based on the obtained data were planned and implemented to ensure the
sanitary and epidemiological wellbeing such as improving the quality of the city’s air environment, providing
drinking water that complied with all hygienic requirements.
