Kang, Jian Chen","doi":"10.1109/IPEMC.2000.883065","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"This paper introduces a DSP controlled chopper in a power conditioning system (PCS) for superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), which is used for experimental study. The PCS may have two kinds of forms: current source converter (CSC) and voltage source converter (YSC), with a chopper. Considering of realization, the latter is adopted in the experimental equipment. The PCS, described in the paper, is used as the interface between AC utility and DC superconducting coil. The chopper in the PCS is a two-quadrant and DC/DC converter it can perform the functions of charge to or discharge from the coil. The paper has applied the PCS into SMES for seeking better control methods of the power system in stability conditioning and load-conditioning. In this paper, a kind of configuration of PCS for SMES has been presented, which can be used to give the worthy conclusion in experimental study. The paper has established the foundation for further practical applications of PCS in wider domains of the power system.
