The efficiency of FFH/CDMA systems in a mobile radio environment
The spectral efficiency of fast frequency hopping/code division multiple access (FFH/CDMA) systems for the uplink (mobile-to-base) in a mobile radio environment is treated. An asynchronous system, Reed-Solomon (RS) codes for error correction, a frequency selective channel, and noncoherent detection at the hard-limited combining receiver are considered. It is shown how the parameters of the RS code, of the M-FSK signaling scheme, and of the frequency hopping system have to be chosen in order to maximize the spectral efficiency for a bit error rate of 10/sup -3/. The best performance is obtained for systems with large values for M where M is the parameter of the M-FSK signaling scheme.<>
