The Benedictine Priory of St. Cross in Trnava: An Unknown Benedictine Priory Church in the Kingdom of Hungary in the Middle Ages
As part of the medieval structure of Hungarian urban settlements, Trnava was one of the most prestigious cities. This was due not only to the fact that this settlement dated back to before the era of the Kingdom of Hungary (9th–10th centuries) and to international trade, but also to the fact that Trnava, at the end of 10th and the beginning of 11th centuries, became one of the residences of the Hungarian monarchs. It is precisely such an economic and social status that led to the relatively early transformation of Trnava into an urban settlement, and it was one of the first settlements of this kind within the whole of the Kingdom of Hungary.
