We provide (re)descriptions and diagnoses of D. heydeni and its two subspecies, an update of the distribution range of the species and discussion on its autoecology. In addition, we assessed published data on the resembling species Dyschirius (Eudyschirius) globosus Herbst, 1784 in North Africa, and concluded that they result from incorrect identifications of D. heydeni.
