Workloads are partitioned with a uniform 3-dimensional mesh in an adaptive curvilinear co-ordinate system which is represented by a wavelet basis. Simulated annealing is used to determine the optimal wavelet coefficients which minimize load imbalance and communication costs. Performance tests on a parallel computer involving up to 1.04 billion particles demonstrate the scalability of the new load balancer.
