Towards a Commercial Pipeline for Field Crop Identification
Crop classification presents an enormous signifi-cance for agriculture management. Satellite remote sensing is considered as an advanced technology to obtain crop types at regional scale, since it can periodically provide large-scale observations of ground objects. This paper presents an agri-tech application based on blockchain technology, which uses the PrivateSky platform, an ecosystem being developed in accordance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). PrivateSky is a research project built with non-proprietary technologies, which focuses on privacy at all levels of the blockchain ecosystem. The paper describes a pipeline for crop classification that is used in a complex commercial application. The pipeline starts from the streaming, storage, and analysis of multispectral images, afterwards continues with the definition of features based on vegetation indices, usage of machine learning techniques, and ends with the blockchain storage of data for privacy issues. The experiments have been performed on real data from fields in the southern part of Romania.
