Developing a context-aware mobile patient monitoring framework with an ontology-based approach
Design of context-aware mobile patient monitoring frameworks (CMPMF) is a new field of practice in the domain of biomedical informatics. Smart phone applications have self-monitoring and sensing capabilities and are used in health interventions and disease prevention. Risk of diseases can be mapped on the data gathered via self-reports or phone sensors in order to provide access to rich health information or to inform caretakers. In this study, a prototype mobile sensing platform was introduced for m-Health and telemedicine applications, which reports user behaviors by means of in-built sensors, connected to external sensors. To provide information on the physical state and health of users, a wireless body area network (WBAN) was used for appropriate context sensing. Applications can sense the environment in context-aware computation and respond with adaptability; hence, an ontology-based model was used for reasoning on context information to extract implicit information on patients' life.
