Operator Perspective: Performance Improvement from Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface
Among the candidate 6G technologies, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) stands out due to its unique characteristics of low cost, low energy consumption, high reliability, and large capacity. Since the operators deployed 5G, signal coverage has been a difficult problem. This paper compares the transmit power and energy efficiency of RIS-aid and SISO NLOS channel by modeling under the 3.5GHz and 2.1GHz NR network deployed by Chinese Operator. This paper mainly compares the transmission power of RIS-aid and SISO in 2.1G and 3.5G bands under rate constraints, and the energy efficiency with the rate. It shows that deploying RIS reduces the transmit power requirement and improves the energy efficiency of network, which proves that RIS improves the coverage of 5G network.
