It helps and supports HR process carried out in an organization such as employee development. The study on competency mapping was conducted among IT Professionals in Chennai City. The study was conducted under 1 sector (ie) TESTING.The study was done using the descriptive research technique and a simple flow of questionnaire was initially prepared to conduct a pilot study to evaluate the adoptability and flexibility and to bring in preciseness over the objective of the study the study was carried using statistical tools like ANOVA and simple percentage was used for data analysis. The total number of respondentstargeted was 310 and the study was confined to particular sector and specific age group. The web based questionnaire was prepared using Google forms and the entire data base of the responses was noted down on Microsoft Excel spread sheet. The objective of the study was to find whether the employees are recruited by knowing their competencies and also the employeesare aware of the competency mapping system. The study also consists to find the level of interest among employees in making them competent for the present as well as the future. The competency mapping study helped in identifying the training needs of the employees, which would be used in performance appraisals etc to help in the employee growth as well as the organizationaldevelopment.
