Wetlands and wetland boundaries: problems, expectations, perceptions and reality

The introduction of State Environmental Planning Policy 14 (coastal Wetlands) in December, 1985 was a major advance in the protection of coastal wetland habitats in New South Wales. The policy has, however, been the subject of continuing criticism and controversy. Landholders and rural organizations have sought to make political capital out of what are seen as faults with various aspects of the policy and have continued to press for its revision.
