Personalized Learning for Knowledge Management in Herbal Medicine
Knowledge management is essential to work sustainably and efficiently. From the tacit knowledge of persons who can learn and exchange information with each other, it will be used to create explicit knowledge for exchanging and integrating to work effectively in the future. Based on this approach, we created an approach to enhance medicinal plants’ knowledge management skills through personalized learning. By using integrated information of medicinal plants as a model for teaching knowledge management, a tool to record personalized learning requirements for students had been developed. The tool was able to choose the learning styles, languages used in reports, and methods of assessments. It was applied to 167 second-year pharmacy students in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Silpakorn University, who enrolled in the course, namely, Informatics for Health Professional, on the topic of knowledge management at the end of the academic year 2019. The students were assigned to use information technology to manage the knowledge of medicinal plants. Collecting reliable information will be recorded in the KUIHerbRx2020, a tool for collecting herb information. The results showed that the students could search for reliable herbal information and transfer them into the KUIHerbRx2020. The students were also satisfied with the personalized learning. They received higher overall scores than previous year students. With this approach, the development of knowledge management skills and techniques in personal learning can be applied to other teaching and learning topics.
